Autism Spectrum Testing (ASD) Assessment

Autism can present differently from person to person and may look different in children, teens, and adults. Some individuals have long sensed they experience the world differently, while others seek answers after noticing challenges with communication, relationships, sensory sensitivities, routines, or burnout. A comprehensive evaluation can provide clarity, understanding, and practical next steps.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that influences how individuals experience communication, social interaction, sensory input, and patterns of thinking. Autism exists along a wide spectrum, meaning individuals may share certain characteristics while having very different strengths, needs, and ways of engaging with the world.

How it affects the individual

Autism can shape how a person understands and responds to social cues, routines, and changes in their environment. Some individuals experience heightened sensitivity to sensory input, differences in communication style, or a preference for predictability and structure. When these differences are misunderstood or unsupported, individuals may experience stress, fatigue, or challenges in relationships, education, or work settings.

Autism and ADHD Can Sometimes Occur Together

Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD commonly co-occur, and they may also share overlapping traits such as attention differences, executive functioning challenges, sensory sensitivities, emotional regulation difficulties, or social misunderstandings. A thorough evaluation helps clarify whether concerns are related to autism, ADHD, both conditions, or another factor entirely so recommendations are accurate and meaningful.

You will receive clear feedback and a detailed written report with practical recommendations tailored to school, work, relationships, and daily life. When appropriate, reports may also support accommodations or access to helpful services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please email staci@drstaciwold.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Psychological testing is a process used to understand a person’s cognitive process, and how they function emotionally and behaviorally. It combines interviews, standardized subjective and objective assessments, and clinical observation to provide an in-depth picture of strengths, challenges, and overall wellbeing. The goal is clarity and understanding—not judgment or labels.

People seek testing for many reasons. Often people are seeking to understand why learning or attention feels difficult, or to gain clarity about mood, anxiety, or personality patterns that may affect relationships or daily life. Testing can confirm or rule out diagnoses, guide treatment planning, or simply provide meaningful insight into a person’s functioning.

The process begins with an intake interview to discuss your concerns, history, and goals. From there, you’ll complete a combination of subjective measures (such as questionnaires, rating scales, and self-report inventories) and objective measures (including standardized tasks, cognitive tests, or structured problem-solving activities) tailored to your needs. Once psychological testing/assessment is complete, all data is carefully interpreted. Together, we review the results, answer your questions, and outline next steps.

Yes. Every client receives a clear, detailed report summarizing the results, interpretations, and personalized recommendations. You can share your report or consult directly with your healthcare providers, therapist, or school team to ensure coordinated care and consistent support.

Sometimes testing confirms an existing diagnosis, and other times, it provides new or more nuanced insight. The goal isn’t to replace what’s already known but to refine and deepen understanding—so treatment, accommodations, or personal strategies are as accurate and effective as possible.

Yes, I accept some insurance providers including Medicare, Optum, Aetna, Cigna and United. We would be happy to check what your in-network and out of network benefits include, and can offer superbills for those without insurance. Many times insurance companies use outside partner companies to facilitate their mental health services so it is always good to double check your benefits.

Most psychological assessments/testing can be done virtually. However, we currently have an office in Encino in preferred in person.

Psychological assessments/testing are provided anywhere in California. They are offered virtually and in person.

Fees vary depending on the scope and purpose of the evaluation. Comprehensive assessments typically range between $800 and $4000 which includes the intake interview, testing sessions, scoring, report writing, and feedback meeting. A personalized estimate is provided after your initial consultation.
